Yes to nature restoration in the European Parliament's Environment Committee - a milestone to secure biodiversity

Today, the European Parliament's Environment Committee (ENVI) voted in favor of the Nature Restoration Regulation (NRL) with a reassuring majority of 53 votes in favor, 28 against and 4 abstentions. While the regulation still needs to be adopted in the plenary of the European Parliament and in the Council of the EU, Ecogain welcomes today's decision as an important step towards a more sustainable future.

- This legislation is something we are already working on, and need to continue for generations. But it is a necessary action to protect our nature and livelihoods," said Ecogain founder Anders Enetjärn. In a recently published agreement, the Council of the EU has set targets for the restoration of at least 20% of the EU's terrestrial and marine areas by 2030, with the aim of restoring all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050. The Council's decision marks an important milestone in the work towards a more sustainable and greener future. But it is also important to emphasize the importance of continued cooperation with the business community to effectively implement the NRL and achieve its ambitious goals.

- Our cooperation with industry is crucial to the successful implementation of the NRL and also to reaching the targets set in the NBSAP," explains Enetjärn.

NBSAP stands for National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan, and is a tool for countries to plan and implement actions to conserve and sustainably use biodiversity.

Businesses give renewed support to the legislation: "

Ahead of today's crucial vote on the EU Nature Restoration Act, a group of leading European companies renewed their support for the legislation. They are calling on MEPs and EU countries to wholeheartedly support the final adoption of the Nature Restoration Act. This is a strong example of how business can and should act as a driving force for positive change.

- At Ecogain, we look forward to contributing to the realization of these goals and working with both public and private stakeholders to promote sustainable development and preserve biodiversity.
