On September 28 to 29, 2023, the collaboration project for Socially Sustainable Industry invites you and others who want to contribute to creating a more socially sustainable industry to this gathering event in Skellefteå. This strategic project is run by Ecogain, in collaboration with experts from KTH, WSP, Luleå University of Technology and Mid Sweden University, with support from Vinnova.
The aim of the arena is to co-create embryonic projects, networks and messages. The issue of socially sustainable industry is central to the development of society at large and particularly urgent in light of the large investments being made for the green transition. The arena brings together actors from civil society, academia, business and the public sector to explore together local anchoring, active cooperation between industry and the rest of society, and new ways forward for social value creation.
Participants include the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, Hela Sverige ska leva, Boliden, the Swedish Sami National Association, Skellefteå Municipality, Zinkgruvan Mining, and experts from several universities.
Help shape the future of a more socially sustainable industry. See you in Skellefteå!

Collaboration Arena 2023 - Program in brief
An interactive arena where all participants will have the opportunity to share their perspectives on the issue of industry and society.
Thursday, September 28, starting at 9.30 am
The morning introduces the theme of socially sustainable industry and the concept of social license to operate. It starts with a historical overview. We will then move on to short pitches from business, civil society, the public sector and academia: how can companies contribute to strengthening community life, increasing natural values and local development? We will also hear about the conclusions of the feasibility study carried out within the project.
Thursday, September 28, afternoon
After a joint lunch, we will break into smaller groups to allow for in-depth dialog and joint work. We focus on concrete issues and factual questions, including the licensing process, energy production and culture. The day ends with a joint dinner at Restaurant Mandel in Sara Kulturhus.
Friday, September 29, morning
The second day of the collaboration arena offers study visits to Boliden, among others. The focus is on collaboration with the local community and making former industrial sites accessible. The program ends after a joint lunch.
