Changing Land use Impact on Biodiversity (CLIMB) is a new biodiversity valuation model. The tool provides relevant data and analysis to support decision makers at all levels. The quantification of nature is based on Swedish standards with direct links to international research. In broad collaboration, twelve leading companies are driving new ways of working by establishing comparable biodiversity metrics across industries.
The Ways of Working with CLIMB project involves many stakeholders from academia, industry, government and the public sector. The goal is to implement new ways of working over the coming years that are adapted to practical situations and different areas of use. Challenges and opportunities where CLIMB can be used will be tested and evaluated in parallel with continued method development and model design. Project leader Carina Andersson from Ecogain encourages more leaders and curious people to join the project with the motivation "the most fun thing about collaboration is that through differences we create a collective learning that drives innovation."
To anchor the methodology in science, user groups and project management collaborate with prominent scientists and experts in both biodiversity and climate.
Collaboration is aimed at:
- You who want to take responsibility and actively contribute to increased biodiversity. You can use the systematic approach offered by the valuation model.
- Investors who, with the help of credible calculations, can identify the conditions for green investments, prioritize profitable choices and simulate sustainable scenarios.
- Companies that need to concretely describe statutory and voluntary nature conservation measures, further develop their skills and integrate biodiversity and KPIs into their business.
- Authorities and municipalities that can make comparisons, evaluate and make decisions based on relevant facts.
CLIMB can be used to disseminate knowledge on how biodiversity contributes to the climate transition.
Impacts on and dependencies on nature are not part of corporate governance today. There is simply no science-based KPI to support well-informed decisions on reinvestment in nature. CLIMB will fill that void.
- Anders Enetjärn, Founder Ecogain.
The project welcomes new project partners and encourages more people to get involved as users.
CLIMB is run by the partner companies Svenska kraftnät, Specialfastigheter, Vattenfall, LKAB, Talga, Cementa, Skanska, Skellefteå Kraft and Boliden and is financed by the partner companies and the strategic innovation program Swedish Mining Innovation, a joint initiative of Vinnova, Formas, and the Swedish Energy Agency.
The project is led by Ecogain.
