COP 15 starts in Montreal - Ecogain and Business@Biodiversity Sweden are there

After being postponed for more than two years, the 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) is now underway.

Between 7 and 19 December, representatives from all parties will gather in Montreal, Canada, to decide on the post-2030 global framework to halt and reverse the loss of biodiversity.

A first draft of the new global targets was produced during the 2021 negotiations. Indications are that the overarching theme will be about reducing threats to biodiversity, meeting human needs through the equitable distribution of natural benefits, and developing tools to implement the new targets. The final framework is likely to include more than 20 targets. For example, the draft that will be negotiated during the meeting includes proposals to protect at least 30% of the land and sea surface and to restore at least 20% of degraded ecosystems. The official framework is expected to be signed on December 17.
