How an eagle inventory works
We start from Kungsörn Sverige's guidance and adapt the methodology to local conditions and the requirements of the authorities. Prior to the inventory, we collect knowledge from the Species Data Bank, local eagle groups and previous reports.
The field survey takes place during the breeding season in February-March, when eagles mark their territories and are most active. We use binoculars and spotting scopes from strategically selected observation sites and always have at least two people working in parallel to confirm movements and avoid misjudgments.
All observations are documented directly in GIS in the field, including time, location, age, behavior and direction of flight. The survey normally covers the project area plus a buffer zone of approximately three kilometers. If necessary, follow-up checks can be made later in the season to follow up on nesting results.
Benefits of eagle surveys
The inventory provides a clear and reliable basis for decision-making, accepted by licensing authorities.
- Identification of territories and potential nesting sites.
- Systematic methodology with high precision and quality-assured documentation.
- Lower risk of late completion requirements and delays.
- Greater certainty in the planning and permitting process.
