All sectors and companies are affected by the TNFD to some extent, either directly or through the dependence of their value chains on natural resources. Although reporting under the TNFD is voluntary at the moment, there is a move towards more stringent requirements, similar to how the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) has become mandatory in several countries.
How do you get started with TNFD?
- Map the current footprint
Start by setting boundaries and identifying your existing footprint by mapping and assessing the status and vulnerabilities of nature. - Evaluate
Follow up the mapping by evaluating the environmental assets and ecosystem services on which the company depends, and include the stakeholder dialogue. - Assess risks and opportunities
Analyze risks and opportunities in terms of the dependencies and impacts identified. Identify existing practices to reduce risks and take advantage of opportunities, and where there are gaps. - Enable and follow up
Define what should be published according to TNFD recommendations and determine relevant KPIs. Also identify which stakeholders should be involved in the results of the analysis.
