Cementa, Sweden's only manufacturer of cement, is dependent on nature to sustainably produce the necessary building material. Strategic work on biodiversity has therefore long been pursued, both within the Swedish company and in the Group.
Cementa is now defining its work in a company-wide strategy for responsible land use. Cementa has developed the strategy in collaboration with Ecogain, one of Sweden's leading knowledge companies in biodiversity and sustainable business models.
- Our business is long-term, so we must also be long-term in how we use land and nature. Our strategy sets out our ambitions for how we coexist with nature and people," says Karin Comstedt Webb, Head of Sustainability at Cementa.
Leading the way in a crucial transition
Biodiversity considerations at every stage of the business process have long been important building blocks in Cementa's commitment to sustainable land use. The company has therefore carried out multi-year research projects and investigations and rehabilitated quarry areas to improve and create new conditions for ecosystems and for animal and plant species at its sites.
- The major players that affect nature and interact with nature have a crucial role in the transition and must therefore lead the way. It is important that Cementa is at the forefront of this work," says Anders Enetjärn, CEO of Ecogain.
