UN designates "Decade on Ecosystem Restoration"

We are delighted that the UN General Assembly recently declared the next decade "The UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration". Restoring ecosystems could help remove 26 billion tons of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, among many other things.

An important milestone

Åsa Granberg, one of Ecogain's experts in ecological restoration, says the decision shows that things are moving in the right direction.

- "It is an important milestone that the UN is highlighting at a high political level the importance of restoring ecosystems and restoring degraded nature, especially when we have seen for several years now that interest and awareness of restoration of the natural environment is increasing, both among companies and authorities and in the research world," she explains.

The UN Environment Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations will now lead the way, as an important part of achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
