On September 18, Boliden's sustainability park in Sarkanenä outside Aitik will be inaugurated. It is Boliden's first sustainability park, and we at Ecogain are proud to have been involved in developing and building the area.
A park with hiking trails and nature experiences for young and old
The park includes new hiking trails, barbecue areas, an adventure trail for children and adults, and lots of interesting information about the nature of Sarkanenä and Boliden's work with biodiversity and ecological compensation.
Information boards along the paths provide information about local natural values and Boliden's work on biodiversity and ecological compensation. The expansion of the sand reservoir at the Aitik mine meant that several important natural values were affected. Besides a beautiful nature experience, there is a lot to learn in the forest about ecological compensation, natural forest, protected species, dead wood and biodiversity!
Part of Boliden's work to restore nature
The Sarkanenä Sustainability Park is part of Boliden's important work to compensate for lost natural values, to give back what it has borrowed to both society and nature. It is also a way to show how we can restore nature, create new natural values and increase biodiversity, and demonstrate the importance of this for future climate change adaptation.
The opening day festivities begin with the unveiling of a specially built birdhouse, followed by a hike on the newly opened trails, and end with a coffee break in the hut.
