Sweden's first industry roadmap for biodiversity is now here!

As the first industry organization, Svemin, in collaboration with Ecogain, has now developed a roadmap for how the Swedish mining and minerals industry should work to promote biodiversity; Mining with Nature.

The time is now ripe to focus on efforts to preserve and increase biodiversity in the places where the mining industry operates. We are doing this to ensure consistency in our actions, but also to show in a transparent way how the mining industry works. Our ambition is also that it will serve as an inspiration both for the mining industry internationally and for other industries.

- Maria Sunér Fleming, CEO of the mining industry association Svemin, project owner and initiator of the initiative.

The roadmap is based on a scientific foundation and the application of the hierarchy of considerations to achieve the goal that by 2030 the mining and minerals industry contributes to biodiversity enhancement in all regions of operation and exploration.

"A success factor for each actor behind the target is to set their own biodiversity targets, appoint mandates and allocate resources to work towards the targets. More specifically, the work can involve identifying risks, dependencies and opportunities to create added value for biodiversity. In this way, it is possible to work systematically and achieve more. It is also important to document, follow up and communicate biodiversity work. This enables shared learning within the industry and society at large."
